Classic Arts News Montreal Symphony Cancels Two More Concerts as Talks Continue The Montreal Symphony has canceled concerts scheduled for October 4 and 5 because of its ongoing musicians' strike.
In a statement, the orchestra said that "negotiations are still being pursued," but that it was necessary to cancel next week's concerts in order to "spare ticket holders the inconvenience linked to uncertainty" about the concerts.

Ticket holders may call the orchestra's customer service department at 514-842-9951 to discuss their options.

The strike, which began on May 9, has now forced the cancellation of 30 concerts: 11 at the end of the 2004-05 season, 13 over the summer, and six this month and next. The orchestra's next events are scheduled for October 18 and 19.

The two sides have been at odds over salary and work rules regarding touring, recordings, and rehearsals. Negotiations stalled in August, but resumed earlier this month. At the request of a mediator, neither side is commenting on the progress of the talks.
