Classic Arts News Montreal Symphony Cancels Two More Concerts Due to Musicians' Strike The Montreal Symphony Orchestra has canceled concerts on October 18 and 19 because of its ongoing musicians' strike.
The program for those concerts, with Bernhard Klee conducting and Marc-Andr_ Hamelin at the piano, included Schoenberg's Beleitungsmusik zu einer Lichtspielzene, Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23, and Brahms's Symphony No. 3.

Ticket holders for those concerts should call customer service at 514-842-9951.

Although a settlement has not yet been reached between the orchestra's musicians and management, a statement released by the orchestra said, "negotiations are still being pursued."

Both sides have agreed not to comment publicly on the negotiations at the request of a mediator.

The orchestra's musicians have been on strike since May 9; the difficulties in reaching a settlement have to do with salary and work rules regarding touring, recordings, and rehearsals. A total of 32 concerts have now been canceled because of the strike.
