Comedians Marcus Brigstocke and Jon Culshaw share the role of Arthur, King of the Britons, at different performances (Bristocke appears July 24-Aug. 1 and Sept. 4-8, with Culshaw from Aug. 2-Sept. 2), with Bonnie Langford as the Lady of the Lake, Todd Carty as Patsy and Eric Idle as God (in a filmed recording). Also in the production are Robin Armstrong as Sir Bedevere, Rob Delaney as Sir Robin, Adam Ellis as Prince Herbert, Kit Orton as Sir Lancelot and Jon Robyns as Sir Galahad, along with Amelia Adams Pearce, Tim Bonser, Michael Burgen, Rachel Knowles, Hannah Malekzad, James Nelson and Paul Bullion.
In the words of the show's publicity billing, ever since it first opened on Broadway in 2005, it is "lovingly ripped off" from the classic film comedy "Monty Python and the Holy Grail." The original Broadway production won the 2005 Tony Award for Best Musical, and Mike Nichols, its director, won the Best Direction of a Musical Tony. This new staging began performances in May 2010.
Brigstocke won the BBC New Comedian Award at the Edinburgh Festival in 1996, since when he has become a regular on the touring comedy circuit and BBC Radio 4, where he has appeared regularly on "The Now Show" and "Just a Minute." He has also written and recorded three series and four specials of his hit show "Giles Wemmbley-Hogg Goes Off."
Culshaw is best known as the star of the hit BBC series "Dead Ringers," impersonating well-known celebrities including George Bush, Tony Blair, Ozzy Osborne, Des Lynam, Tom Baker, Michael Parkinson and David Beckham.
Langford's extensive career in musical theatre has stretched from her West End debut at the age of seven in Gone with the Wind (at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane) and playing Baby June in Gypsy opposite Angela Lansbury (Piccadilly Theatre) the year after to being part of the original cast of Cats. Other West End shows include The Pirates of Penzance, Peter Pan - the Musical, Me and My Girl and Sweet Charity. She has appeared as Roxie Hart in Chicago both in the West End and on Broadway. Carty is best known for playing Mark Fowler in TV's "EastEnders" for 12 years. Other series include "Tucker's Luck," "The Bill," "Heartbeat" and "Casualty." On stage, he has played the role of Det. Insp. Hallet in the UK tour of The Business of Murder.
