News Mortician Reaches for Life in World Premiere of Wake at MI's Purple Rose Casting has been announced for The Purple Rose Theatre Company's world-premiere production of Carey Crim's comedy, Wake, about an agoraphobic mortician, to play June 18-Aug. 29 in Chelsea, MI.

This is the 39th world premiere at PRTC, founded by actor Jeff Daniels in his hometown, 60 miles west of Detroit. Opening is June 26.

According to PRTC, "In this summer comedy, Molly Harrison is an agoraphobic mortician, anchored to the safety of her funeral home for over three years. Her vivacious mother and precocious teenage daughter try in their own humorous ways to help her take that first step down the front walk, including hypnosis, sensory-overload therapy and a trip to Moscow. But in the end, Molly must realize what is truly important in her life before the power of love can finally inspire her to embrace the world again."

Artistic director Guy Sanville directs a cast that features Stacie Hadgikosti, Brenda Lane, Alex Leydenfrost, resident artist Michelle Mountain, Frank David Obelnicki, Sandy Ryder and Bill Simmons.

The creative team includes set designer Vincent Mountain, properties designer Danna Segrest, costume designer Christianne Myers, lighting designer Reid G. Johnson and sound designer Quintessa Gallinat. Stephanie Buck stage manages with Michelle DiDomenico as assistant stage manager.
