News MTC Delays Ripcord Performances Until Thursday with Holland Taylor and Marylouise Burke
Originally scheduled to begin previews Sept. 29, performances for the world premiere of Ripcord by Pulitzer Prize winner David Lindsay-Abaire will now begin Oct. 1 at Manhattan Theatre Club. The Off-Broadway play about two women who butt heads in a nursing home, stars Emmy winner and Tony nominee Holland Taylor ("Two and a Half Men") and Drama Desk Award winner Marylouise Burke (Kimberly Akimbo, Fuddy Meers).

Previews have been delayed due to the need for additional technical rehearsals,  according to a statement from the producers. Ticket buyers are advised to contact the point of purchase to reschedule their tickets.

The full cast also includes Rachel Dratch (Love’s Labour’s Lost, "SNL"), Glenn Fitzgerald ("The Sixth Sense"), Daoud Heidami (Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo) and Nate Miller (Peter and the Starcatcher).

MTC's staging of Ripcord, helmed by Tony and Emmy winner David Hyde Pierce, is scheduled to officially open Oct. 20 at New York City Center – Stage I.

Lindsay-Abaire is the award-winning author of Rabbit Hole, Fuddy Meers and Good People. His newest comedy, Ripcord, is described as both "inappropriate" and "hilarious," as it follows two elderly women in a no-holds-barred battle of wills—to the death.

"A sunny room on an upper floor is prime real estate in the Bristol Place Assisted Living Facility," state press notes. "So when the cantankerous Abby (Taylor) is forced to share her quarters with new-arrival Marilyn (Burke), she has no choice but to get rid of the infuriatingly chipper woman by any means necessary. A seemingly harmless bet between the old women quickly escalates into a dangerous game of one-upmanship that reveals not just the tenacity of these worthy opponents, but also deeper truths that each would rather remain hidden." The creative team includes Alexander Dodge (scenic design), Peter Kaczorowski (lighting design), Jennifer von Mayrhauser (costume design), John Gromada (original music and sound design) and Thomas Schall (fight director)
