Mummenschanz, the famed Swiss troupe, ends the New York City run of their new production Mummenschanz Now Dec. 31 at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall. Performances began Dec. 21.
For Mummenschanz Now, an all-new program of the company's unique blend of mime, dance and puppetry, the company has added a fourth member. The quartet features Bernie Schurch, Floriana Frassetto, Jakob Bentsen and Raffaella Matioli.
The troupe was originally created by Schurch, Frasetto and the late Andre Bossard. “Mummenschanz” is a rough translation of mummery or masquerade. It is also the word for a mask worn by medieval Swiss mercenaries during card games to hide their facial expressions. The Tony Award-winning company has performed their brand of visual theatre throughout the United States and Europe, landing on Broadway twice.
Tickets ($45-$27.50) are available by calling Ticketmaster at (312) 902 1500. The Athenaeum Theatre is located at 2936 N. Southport.
