The work is slated to run through July 29 in the 325-seat Martel Theater, located in the Vogelstein Center for Drama and Film at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY. Anastasia Barzee (White Christmas, Henry IV) and Mark Linn-Baker (A Year with Frog and Toad, "Perfect Strangers") star with William Thomas Evans, Ivan Hernandez, Chris McGarry and Patina Miller.
Shanley directs and provides the book and lyrics to Krieger's music for the new work, which features six related plays and roughly 25 original songs.
"I think that the show sort of reminds you of what you already knew about how exciting life is and about how central the romantic experience is and how hand-in-hand it is with the spiritual experience," stated Shanley in a release. "I think the audience is going to drink it down like thirsty people for water!"
Barzee (and Idina Menzel, whom she replaced in this run) and the aforementioned cast took part in a one-night sneak peek of the work at a benefit event for the LAByrinth Theater Company May 21 at Off-Broadway's Lucille Lortel Theatre.
Composer Krieger penned the Tony-nominated scores for Dreamgirls and Side Show as well as the scores for The Tap Dance Kid and the forthcoming The Flamingo Kid, among others.
Pulitzer Prize winner Shanley — who earned that honor for Doubt — has written the plays Defiance, Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, Savage in Limbo, Four Dogs and a Bone, Where's My Money, Dirty Story and Sailor's Song as well as the screenplays for "Moonstruck" and "Joe Versus the Volcano."
