Submissions are being accepted for the second Kansas City Festival of New Musicals, formerly the Kansas City Crossroads Musical Theater Festival. Sponsored by the Theater League, the multi-city presenting and producing organization, the festival will get a sister showcase in 2007, in Thousand Oaks, CA. It will be called (not surprisingly) the Thousand Oaks Festival of New Musicals.
Shows presented in Kansas City in June will later be presented in California in August.
The festivals "seek to introduce new and unique works into the American theatre catalogue," according to Theater League, Inc.
The inaugural festival in July 2006 saw seven new musicals showcased. The second annual Kansas City Festival of New Musicals will be held June 15 & 16, 2007, and the Thousand Oaks Festival of New Musicals will be Aug. 24, 25 & 26, 2007.
"Selected works will be paired with professional music directors, stage directors and actors and given staged readings for multiple performances," Theater League announced. Theater League is seeking submissions for the festival. Deadline is Jan. 5, 2007.
Submisssions must meet the following criteria:
Submissions will be accepted until 5 PM, Jan. 5, 2007. Finalists will be notified by Feb. 1, 2007.
