News   "Mystic River" Writer Pens First Stagework Coronado for New York World Premiere
Dennis Lehane — the author of the "Mystic River" — pens a new crime thriller for the stage with Coronado which makes its world premiere in New York starting Nov. 30.

The Invisible City Theatre Company presents the new work opening Dec. 3 at Manhattan Theatre Source for a run through Dec. 17. David Epstein directs.

Set in "a nameless bar somewhere in rural America," Coronado tells how a disparate group — "a young couple [who] falls hopelessly in love, a psychiatric patient [who} confronts her demons, and a father-and-son [who] search for a missing woman — and a stolen diamond" — reveal a bloody past that connects them all, according to production notes.

The cast features Maggie Bell, Dan Patrick Brady, Avery Clark, Elizabeth Horn, Gerry Lehane, Jason MacDonald, Rebecca Miller, Lance Rubin and Kathleen Wallace.

The design team for Coronado features Michael Carnahan (set), Michael Bevins (costumes) and Driscoll A. Otto (lighting).

Based on his short story "Until Gwen," Coronado marks Lehane's first work written expressly for the stage. "Until Gwen" was originally published in the Atlantic Monthly and will also appear in Best American Short Stories 2005 and Best Mystery Short Stories 2005 — the first time a story has been selected for both collections in the same year. Lehane has also written the novels "A Drink Before the War," "Darkness, Take My Hand," "Sacred," "Gone, Baby, Gone," "Prayers for Rain," and "Shutter Island." His "Mystic River" was the basis for the Academy Award-winning film directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Sean Penn and Tim Robbins. He has also written for the HBO series "The Wire" and is currently at work on a novel about the Boston Police Strike of 1919.
