Based in New York City at the Actors' Equity Building (at 1560 Broadway), Tom Smedes Productions will officially open for business Feb. 1, according to an announcement. Smedes was previously a partner and co-owner of Martian Entertainment with recent producing credits on the Off-Broadway productions of Dog Sees God, The Women of Lockerbie, 21 Dog Years: Doing Time @ Amazon.com, Love, Janis, and the London run of Musical of Musicals! (The Musical!).
Among the projects lined up for Tom Smedes Productions are a fall Off-Broadway run of The London Sound Theatre's production of Jonathan Harvey's Beautiful Thing a Los Angeles run of Bert Royal's Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead as well as an Atlanta run of Mathew Wilkas and Mark Setlock's Pageant Play at Actors' Express Theatre.
Before his time at Martian Entertainment, Smedes was a theatre manager for the Nederlander Organization (overseeing the Nederlander, Lunt-Fontanne, Palace, Brooks Atkinson, Richard Rodgers, Minskoff, Neil Simon and the Gershwin Theatres) and the 2002 season at Lucille Lortel's White Barn Theater in Westport, CT.
