An explosion at the National Theatre, involving a transformer, has led to a power cut and the cancellation of tonight's performances of The Relapse (Olivier) and Howard Katz (the Cottesloe), Aug. 20. Fortunately noone was hurt in the blast, which was attended by the fire brigade on Sunday night, or at the fire which broke out in a second transformer in the early hours of this morning, causing further damage to the National's electricity supply.
These problems may effect the first preview of Mark Ravenhill's much awaited Mother Clap's Molly House on Wednesday, Aug. 22. As of 1 PM (EST), the problem had not been fixed, according to a box office spokesperson.
