News NBC's "Today" Will Offer "Hairspray" Week July 16-20 To celebrate the forthcoming release of the movie musical "Hairspray" — based on the Tony-winning musical of the same name — NBC's "Today" will offer a week of interviews with cast members from the new film.

The week will culminate with a performance from the cast of "Hairspray" at Rockefeller Plaza. Fans are invited to attend the outdoor performance; the Plaza is located between 48th and 49th Streets and Fifth and Sixth Avenues.

The line-up of guests follows:

July 16: Queen Latifah, who plays Motormouth Maybelle

July 17: Michelle Pfeiffer, who plays Velma Von Tussle

July 18: Nikki Blonsky, Zac Efron, Amanda Bynes and Elijah Kelly, who play, respectively, Tracy Turnblad, Link Larkin, Penny Pingleton and Seaweed July 19: Christopher Walken, who plays Wilbur Turnblad

July 20: A performance from the cast of "Hairspray"

The "Today" show airs in the metropolitan area on WNBC-TV Channel 4. All "Hairspray" segments are scheduled to air during the 8-9 AM hour of the program. For more information visit www.todayshow.com.

Adam Shankman directs and choreographs (and appears in a cameo with Hairspray creators Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman) the "Hairspray" film, which stars John Travolta as Edna Turnblad, Christopher Walken as Wilbur Turnblad, Queen Latifah as Motormouth Maybelle, Amanda Bynes as Penny Pingleton, Zac Efron as Link Larkin, Brittany Snow as Amber von Tussel, Michelle Pfeiffer as Velma von Tussel, James Marsden as Corny Collins, Elijah Kelly as Seaweed, Allison Janney as Prudy Pingleton and Nikki Blonsky as Tracy Turnblad.

The film is based on the still-running musical Hairspray, which itself was based on the 1988 John Waters film of the same name. The movie musical was adapted by Leslie Dixon from the Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan book and features the score by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman with additional songs created for the film. The film hits theatres nationwide July 20.
