The new play will debut at the Williamstown Theatre Festival this coming summer, Variety reported. The drama is set in New York in 1939 and looks to be one of Simon's autobiographical efforts. Simon's Rose's Dilemma is currently in previews at Manhattan Theatre Club with Mary Tyler Moore and John Cullum. The prolific author's latest Broadway play was 45 Seconds from Broadway, which had a brief run in the 2001-02 season. Luckier was 2000's The Dinner Party, a hit which ran for nearly a year.

Simon is, of course, the author of such enduring comedies as The Odd Couple, The Sunshine Boys and Brighton Beach Memoirs.

Williamstown recently lost its artistic director, Michael Ritchie, to the Los Angeles' Center Theatre Group, overseeing the Mark Taper Forum, the Ahmanson Theatre and the new Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City. Ritchie will step down on Jan. 1, 2005.
