Gould and Matthews' Invisible Thread, previously titled Witness Uganda, had its world premiere at American Repertory Theatre in 2014, helmed by Tony winner Paulus and featuring many of the new Off-Broadway cast members. The musical follows the life-changing journey of a young New Yorker who volunteers for an aid project in Uganda. "When his altruistic aspirations collide with the real world," describe press notes, "his life is changed in unexpected and profound ways."
As Playbill reported in July, the show was able to crowd-fund enough money to send the the cast, creators and a film crew to Uganda. Paulus has been attached to the project's development for several years and oversaw staged readings in New York late last year. Over the last few years, the musical, which is the winner of the 2012 and 2014 Richard Rodgers Award, has raised over $200,000 for the students' educations in Uganda.
The Off-Broadway staging of Invisible Thread features scenic design by Tom Pye, costume design by ESosa, lighting design by Justin Townsend, sound design by Jonathan Deans, projection design by Peter Negrini, choreography by Sergio Trujillo and co-choreography by Darrell Grand Moultrie. Remy Kurs is music supervisor; Gould is music director.
