A new documentary centering on the life and career of recording artist and Broadway composer Elton John will be released Sept. 18.

Eagle Vision USA releases the one-disc DVD that features the new 141-minute documentary.

"The greatest thing about Rock and Roll is that someone like me can be a star," is the Elton John quote from which the film takes its name. Film notes describe the project thusly: "He was 23 before he became a star. Shy, chubby and bespectacled, he was already losing his hair. Hardly a rock icon. In the course of a year he had adopted an outrageous stage persona and became a rock sensation. With over 200 million albums sold, including seven consecutive chart toppers, Sir Elton John is one of the most successful recording artists of all time."

The film follows the ups as well as the downs of the career of the British singer-songwriter.

Recording artist Elton John, known internationally for his pop songwriting career of over 30 years, is currently represented on Broadway by the long-running Disney musical The Lion King. For the stage, he has also created Aida, Lestat and the Broadway-bound Billy Elliot.

Among the dozens of top-selling and Grammy Award-winning pop songs he has penned include "Your Song," "Tiny Dancer," "Someone Saved My Life Tonight," "Daniel," "Rocket Man," "Candle in the Wind," "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me," "Bennie and the Jets," "I'm Still Standing" and many more.
