Kinky Boots producers Daryl Roth and Hal Luftig, along with co-creators Cyndi Lauper and Harvey Fierstein, are encouraging people to register to vote—and then get out and vote November 8 in the U.S. presidential election.

Fierstein and Lauper surprised a recent audience at the Tony Award-winning musical at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre and joined the cast onstage for a reworked version of the show’s Act I finale, “Everybody Say Yeah,” and then helped patrons register to vote. Anyone can register online to vote instantly at http://kinky.vote/.

“Because of its subject and its message, Kinky Boots has the rare opportunity to be part of the political conversation,” Fierstein said. “Hopefully, this fun little rewrite of ’Everybody Say Yeah’ will remind some people to register before it’s too late, and make sure their voices are heard on November 8th.”

Lyrics for the revised version of the song follow:

It’s time to get out the vote and express your views
It’s your responsibility
Impact the future with who you choose
Talk about liberty

‘Cause on November 8th it’s going down
So do it for your nation
Get up, get online, and get in step
With our Kinky registration

Every voter say yeah (yeah)
Say yeah (yeah)
Say yeah (yeah)
Say yeah (yeah)
Yeah

(spoken)

Democrats, Republicans, and those who have yet to make up their minds
We want each and every one of you to get out there and vote on Election Day
Remember, your vote is your voice, and not everybody’s going to like it
But you gotta let it be heard

Kinky Boots, according to press notes, “tells the uplifting and heartwarming tale of Charlie Price, a young man reluctantly taking over his family’s struggling shoe factory and looking for a fresh idea. Charlie meets and finds inspiration in Lola and together, they discover that it takes a good friend to make a great pair.”

The winner of six 2013 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Kinky Boots features a Tony Award-winning score by Cyndi Lauper and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein with direction and choreography by Tony winner Jerry Mitchell.
