Artistic director Daniel Henning and artistic producer Noah Wyle announced the forthcoming 16th season for the California company which will also include the west coast premiere of Hilly Hicks Jr.'s A Hole in the Dark and the Los Angeles debut of Kira Obolensky's Lobster Alice.
The Blank Theatre Company's 2006 schedule (subject to change) is as follows:
Darin Anthony directs the comedy which spins a tale of a "typical white 20th-century family [who] anxiously prepare to have their black neighbors, whom they have just sued, over for lunch," as a release states, when their son returns home with a shocking revelation. The work was originally presented in The Blank’s new play development program The Living Room Series.
Blank artistic director Henning stages this imagined tale based on the real-life event of Walt Disney Studios commissioning surrealist artist Salvador Dali to create a short animated film. The artist spent most of six weeks with a young animator who at work on "Alice In Wonderland."
Conceived and directed by Blank's Henning, the new musical "takes you to a magical honeymoon suite where a young bride and groom try to release their separate pasts in order to begin their married life together." Woven from the composer's produced and unproduced works, the production is billed as "a musical Rorschach Test; open to your interpretation." Composer Michael John LaChiusa recently saw his See What I Wanna See play Off-Broadway at The Public Theatre. He is also known for his musicals The Wild Party, Marie Christine, Hello Again, First Lady Suite, The Petrified Prince and Little Fish.
The Blank Theatre Company comes off a prosperous 2005 season which featured the company's longest running production with Amy and David Sedaris' The Book of Liz (172 performances).
