Producer Stewart F. Lane and columnist Ward Morehouse III, the odd-couple writing team behind 2001's short-lived Off-Broadway offering If It Were Easy..., saw a reading of their latest play, St. Nick, at Manhattan's Castillo Theatre, Nov. 10.

The new work is about an ex-actor who finds a new life when a long lost love writes him to say she wants to get married.

If It Were Easy..., a comedy about theatrical producing, closed at the Douglas Fairbanks on April 1 following a six-week run and some fairly blistering reviews. For a period of time toward the end of the run, Lane himself played one of the parts in the show.

Lane's Broadway producing credits include Thoroughly Modern Millie and 1776. He is also co-owner of the Palace Theater and recently entered into a producing partnership with Elizabeth Williams and Anita Waxman.

Morehouse penned a theatre column for the New York Post for several years. In recent months, he has performed the same task for the New York Sun—the latest incarnation of the famous New York daily where his father, the original Ward Morehouse, once covered the theatre. In addition to St. Nick, Lane has another play in the wings. It's title? In the Wings. Lane described it as "'A Star Is Born' for the theatre." A reading will take place in January.
