News New Line Theatre to Offer Cult Musical Bare in 2011 Bare, the rock musical about repressed teens in a Catholic high school setting, will be part of the 20th anniversary season at New Line Theatre in 2011.

With book and music by Damon Intrabartolo and book and lyrics by Jon Hartmere, bare will play the St. Louis, MO, venue June 2-25, 2011. Casting and creative team will be announced at a later date.

Here's how New Line describes the musical: "bare (usually in lower case) follows six seniors at a Catholic boarding school. At the center are Jason and Peter, who are forced to deal with their mutual romantic attraction while trying to live up to the standards of their parents and the Catholic Church. The show explores the range of problems facing American youth today, from body image to teen pregnancy, from drug culture to adult expectations."

The musical has earned a cult following since its award-winning Los Angeles staging and its subsequent sold-out, five-week Off-Broadway run. Plans for a wider New York City life fell through in 2004, but a studio recording was made, attracting fresh international fans.

Bare received its world-premiere staging at the Hudson Theatre in Los Angeles, CA, in 2000 and was produced Off-Broadway in 2004. In L.A., it won the 2001 LA Drama Critics Circle Award for Musical Score, and the LA Weekly Award for Best Original Score & Best Musical.

The 2007 release of "bare the album," a studio recording of the entire show, was made available through www.barethealbum.com and then went wide on iTunes. New Line Theatre's upcoming season will also include I Love My Wife, Sept. 30-Oct. 23, 2010; and Two Gentlemen of Verona, March 3-26, 2011.
