Bright Star, which is based on an original short story by Martin and Brickell, will receive a workshop presented by the Old Globe beginning Feb. 10, 2014. Tony Award winner Walter Bobbie will direct, and Rob Berman will provide musical direction. Following the workshop, private presentations will be given March 6-7.

The musical features music by Brickell and Martin, lyrics by Brickell and a book by Martin.

Here's how the casting notice describes the show: "Bright Star is set in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina and takes us between 1945 and 1922, as a young man returns from war and uncovers hidden yearnings and dark secrets about his past. Features a bluegrass score including songs from Edie Brickell and Steve Martin’s new album 'Love Has Come for You.'"

Bright Star recently played a sold-out run as part of the Vassar & New York Stage and Film Powerhouse Theater season, directed by Bobbie.
