A Korean immigrant to the United States, director/playwright/producer Dimo Hyun Jun Kim was inspired to write his new musical Green Card after his roommate committed suicide. Performances begin August 12 at the Theatre at St. Clement's.

An aspiring actor, his roommate struggled to make it here in the land of opportunity, and Kim felt an honest depiction of the realities and challenges of immigration needed to be made.

The cast features Garett T.K. Taketa, Daniela Benítez, Yonji Ham, Paul Marquez, Alex Notkin, Byron Clohessy, Julia Lim, Joomin Hwang, Aliza Sotsky, Futaba Shioda, James Edison Pierce, Oscar David Aguirre, Sam Franco, Myoungjin Choi, Stephanie Gomerez, Minsun Kim, Lina Lee, Liz Lindenmeier, Caleb Ricke and Genevieve Shi.

A graduate of the City College of New York with a degree in theatre, this is Kim’s second musical. His Comfort Women also debuted at the Theatre at St. Clement’s, telling the story of Korean women forced into sexual slavery for the Japanese during World War II. Even at the age of 25, Kim is not afraid to confront real issues. Kim’s work has already caught the eye and support of Korean producers and investors. Kim’s work also marks opportunity for Asian actors in the theatre. According to NBC News, Comfort Women is believed to be the first Off-Broadway musical with an all-Asian cast directed by an East Asian native.

The current production runs through August 28 under Kim’s direction and features music by Bryan Michaels and Tahoe Park, lyrics by Bryan Michaels, book by Kim and Ismael Robinson, scenic design by Bo Ra Kwan, lighting design by Bernard Johnson, costume design by Nayshaun Stokes and sound design by Tae Jon Park.
