News New "Producers" Song Eligible for Academy Award Forty-two songs were announced by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences as eligible for the Academy Award for Best Original Song.

The new tune that Mel Brooks penned for "The Producers" film, "There's Nothing Like a Show on Broadway," is eligible for nomination. No songs from the film of "Rent" were deemed eligible because Academy rules state that songs must have been specifically written for the motion picture.

Nominations for the 78th Academy Awards will be announced Jan. 31, 2006, at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater. The Academy Awards will be presented March 5, 2006, at the Hollywood's Kodak Theatre. ABC-TV will broadcast the event live.
