News New Ryan Scott Oliver Musical We Foxes Will Be Read at San Diego State University A reading of We Foxes, a new musical by Ryan Scott Oliver — whose Jasper in Deadland recently concluded a sold-out Off-Broadway run — will be held May 5 at the Experimental Theatre on the San Diego State University campus.

The MFA Musical Theatre Program invited Oliver to be a composer-in-residence April 28-May 7. He has worked with the current MFA Musical Theatre students as well as selected alumni for the upcoming 7:30 PM reading.

We Foxes will feature direction by Paula Kalustian and music direction by Robert Meffe.

Here is how the new work is billed: "Set in 1945 Missouri, the Southern Gothic musical tells the story of Willa, a tough, unmannered orphan adopted by the wife of the Sheriff and the bloody domestic war that ensues between them when Willa uncovers the secrets lurking beneath the floorboards. It is the story of intense human struggle, deliverance, and salvation that can only be found from within."

Oliver has written eight musicals and is a 2011 Lucille Lortel Award nominee, a 2009 Jonathan Larson grant recipient and the 2008 Richard Rodgers Award for Musical Theatre recipient. His work has been featured at the Kennedy Center, Off-Broadway and on television. Read more about his work in Playbill.com's Contemporary Musical Theatre Songwriters You Should Know.
