Flying Solo, an evening of one-person shows starring Amy Hill and Arlene Malinowski, continues through Aug. 25 at the West Coast Ensemble. Hill's work is titled Deadwood to Hollywood, Malinowski's Please Sign Here...A Journey Between Sound and Silence. Performances are on Tues. & Wed. nights only, at 8 PM.

Hill's piece is a comic travelogue dealing with the trips she has made, from a camel ride along the Black Sea in Pakistan to a week in Paris where a Moroccan ballet dancer pursued her, to her brother's "Sacred Love Institute" in Redondo Beach. Hill is a veteran solo stage performer, having previously starred in such pieces as Tokyo Bound, Beside Myself and Reunion. Last year she debuted on Broadway in the Tony-nominated production of Twelfth Night, starring Helen Hunt and Kyra Sedgwick.

Malinowski is a West Coast Ensemble member. Please Sign Here is an autobiogrtaphical tale of a hearing daughter growing up with deaf parents, bridging the world of two languages and cultures. Malinowski uses both language and sign language to put her story across to hearing and deaf audiences.

Mark W. Travis is the director of Malinowski's piece, which was developed at his performance-acting school. Ann Etue is Hill's director.

West Coast Ensemble is located at 522 N. La Brea Ave. For tickets and information call (323) 525-0022. -- By Willard Manus
