News New Staging of Disney's Tarzan Takes Flight at Arvada Center The Arvada Center's high-flying production of the Disney musical Tarzan, starring Brian Ogilvie, officially opens July 11 after previews that began July 8 in Colorado.

Gavin Mayer directs the production that will continue through Aug. 3. It features musical direction by David Nehls and choreography by Kitty Skillman Hilsabeck.

Tarzan, based on the 1999 Disney film of the same name and the story by Edgar Rice Burroughs, has music and lyrics by Grammy winner Phil Collins and a book by David Henry Hwang. The musical premiered on Broadway in 2006.

Ogilvie (South Pacific at Paper Mill) stars as Tarzan in a cast that also features Jennifer Lorae (Jane), Shannan Steele (Kala) and Laurence A. Curry (Kerchak).

Completing the cast are Colin Alexander, Piper Lindsay Arpan, Lillian C. Brown, Jimmy Bruenger, Jean-Luc Cavnar, Heather Doris, Conrad Eck, Jake Elvig, Andrea Forsythe, Kitty Skillman Hilsabeck, Kaden Hinkle, Matt LaFontaine, Emma C. Martin, Parker Redford, Tim Roller, Andrew Russell, Thomas Russo, Rachel Turner, Burke Walton and Jason Williams.

According to the Arvada Center, "Tarzan tells the story of an infant boy orphaned in a shipwreck on the shores of west Africa. The child is taken in and raised by a tribe of gorillas. He becomes a man, thriving in this primitive environment, until the arrival of a hunting expedition and his realization of the world beyond his jungle home." The creative team includes Brian Mallgrave (scene design), Meredith S. Murphy (costume design), David Thomas (sound design) and Shannon McKinney (lighting design).
