Good Works Productions, in association with Aizzah Fatima and Monica Bauer, will present the premiere of the Lady Liberty Theater Festival in New York September 7-25. The festival will feature three works aimed at battling Islamophobia, tied together by the ideals represented in the Statue of Liberty.
The festival’s line-up features Fatima’s Dirty Paki Lingerie, directed by Erica Gould, the story of six American-Muslim women drawn from real-life incidents and interviews; and two of Bauer’s award-winning short plays: Lady Liberty’s Worst Day Ever starring Frances McGarry as the Statue of Liberty and J. Dolan Byrnes as her agent; and No Irish Need Apply, starring Ali Andre Ali as a Syrian refugee looking for work and McGarry as a bodega owner.
The festival will also feature free staged readings on September 11 from noon-6 PM. The readings are free, but donations will go towards the International Rescue Committee for their work with Syrian refugees.
