News New Tony Kushner Play to Premiere at the Guthrie in 2009 Guthrie artistic director Joe Dowling announced Oct. 25 that the Minnesota venue has commissioned Pulitzer Prize winner Tony Kushner to pen a new play.

The work, entitled The Intelligent Homosexual’s Guide to Capitalism and Socialism with a Key to the Scriptures, will debut on the Guthrie's McGuire Proscenium Stage in the spring of 2009. In a statement, director Dowling said, "Tony is one of the great playwrights in the contemporary theater. His powerful dramatic voice has identified our times in a unique and dramatic way, so it is a thrill and honor for the Guthrie to premiere his latest piece."

Futher details about the new work have yet to be announced.

Kushner won back-to-back Tony Awards for the two-part epic Angels in America. The first half, Millennium Approaches, won the 1993 Best Play Tony and the second, Perestroika, was awarded the 1994 Best Play prize. His other works include A Bright Room Called Day, Slavs!: Thinking About the Longstanding Problems of Virtue and Happiness, Henry Box Brown and The Mirror of Slavery.
