Motherlode Theatre will present the American premiere of The Good Earth, a Welsh theatrical piece that provides cultural context to some of the sentiment that led to the recent Brexit vote, at the Flea Theater.

The production, written and devised by the Motherlode collective and featuring Welsh folk songs, will be brought to the U.S. in association with RCT Theatres, Wales Millenium Centre and Arts Council Wales. Performances run August 17-September 3.

Inspired by true events, The Good Earth is billed as the “explosive new story” of a Welsh village fighting to save their homes from big businesses.

The play is bilingual with all songs sung in Welsh. The staging features Rachael Boulton, Anni Dafydd, Kate Elis, Gwenllian Higginson and Michael Humphrey.

The production also has musical direction by Max Mackintosh, scenic/costume design by Buddug James Jones, lighting design by Katy Morrison and graphic design and illustration by Tom Flannery. Jason Rost is the New York associate producer, and Matt Davies is the general manager.
