Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, the well known non-profit fundraising organization, and New York's fashion world have joined forces to create New York Fashion Cares (NYFC), a new charity outfit that combines the resources of theatre, music and fashion to raise money to fight breast cancer and AIDS.

NYFC's debut event, called "Fashion Rocks Broadway," will take place at Studio 54, home of Broadway's Cabaret, on May 7. The concert is expected to feature some of the biggest names Broadway and Off Broadway currently have to offer.

The seeds of "Fashion Rocks Broadway" were sewn last year at a Westbeth Theatre concert benefiting BC/EFA, called "She Rocks Broadway." Such names as Alice Ripley (The Rocky Horror Show, Daphne Rubin-Vega (Rent), Idina Menzel (The Wild Party), Orfeh (Saturday Night Fever), Kay Story (Jekyll & Hyde) and Spring (Saturday Night Fever) sang at the event.

Some of the abovementioned are expected to return for "Fashion Rocks Broadway. Stars will sing original rock and pop selections while showcasing new designs by a variety of fashion designers. The show will result in a CD, as well as a DVD of the production.

All proceeds will go to NYFC's two main beneficiaries: The Breast Examination Center of Harlem of the Memorial Sloane-Kettering Cancer Center; and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. According to organizers, "Fashion Rocks Broadway" is seeking media partners in television or cable.
