Over the course of an hour, Barry Smith retells his surreal journey with a bizarre religious cult in the early 1990s in an attempt to grasp the truth of God. Incorporating home movies and other media, Barry brings the audience along for the ride to Montana to meet Jesus.
"I was with a group of people who believed that Jesus had returned and was living in Montana," Barry Smith told Playbill.com. "So I went and stayed in Jesus' basement for a while. I think the bizarre part was that it didn't seem bizarre at the time. I mean, I don't know what's more bizarre than Jesus returning in Montana. So in retrospect, that was strange. At the time, the apocalypse was on our to-do list. We thought it'd be a good thing.
"I thought this would be a great fringy tale for new York," Smith continued. "As far as the fringe of human experience goes, quitting your job and leaving your life to accept someone in Montana as your personal savior seems kind of on the edge."
According to a press release, the show is "not recommended for children or the spiritually faint of heart." For more information visit the official website at www.jesusinmontana.com(http://www.jesusinmontana.com/).
