Like the opening-night gala, the September 22 concert will be conducted by music director Lorin Maazel. The program includes Mahler's First Symphony and Chopin's First Piano Concerto, with Lang Lang as soloist.
The 7:30 p.m. concert will be broadcast with a tape delay at 8 p.m. ET (check local listings).
The Philharmonic also announced that pre-concert talks would precede every subscription concert this season. Conductor and musicologist Charles Zachary Bornstein, the orchestra's first Leonard Bernstein Scholar-in-Residence, will give many of the talks. Others will be given by music scholar Christopher H. Gibbs, composers Joelle Wallach and Paul Moravec, and members of the Philharmonic staff.
