Jason Robert Brown, Ricky Ian Gordon, Adam Guettel and Michael John LaChiusa, how did you get to Carnegie Hall? Forget practice, practice, practice - by creating attention-getting new music for the stage.

Nov. 17, The Full Monty's Jason Danieley and Emily Skinner, Kiss Me, Kate's Marin Mazzie, and Billy Porter will sing works from those four fresh musical-theatre composers with the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall. New York Pops founder and musical director Skitch Henderson narrates, with Charles Prince, son of director and producer Hal, conducting.

The evening begins with a throwback to the Broadway era before these young composers arrived, with performances of "Lost in the Stars" (Kurt Weill), "Maria" (Leonard Bernstein-Stephen Sondheim), "Love Is Here to Stay" (George Gershwin) and "Fair Is Fair" (Richard Rodgers). The Rodgers number becomes an introduction to the work of his grandson, Guettel. The composer of Floyd Collins contributes numbers from that work (in which Danieley starred), Saturn Returns, and a suite from his upcoming Light in the Piazza. LaChiusa follows with three songs from his 2000 Broadway efforts: "Welcome to My Party" and "Wild" from The Wild Party, and "Paradise is Burning" from Marie Christine, along with "Tom" from Hello Again.

After the intermission, Ricky Ian Gordon presents two songs from his Langston Hughes cycle, Only Heaven - "When Sue Wears Red" and "Joy" - as well as "We Will Always Walk Together" from Dream True and "Lullaby" (featured on Audra McDonald's "Way Back to Paradise" CD). Jason Robert Brown, who won a Tony Award for Parade, finishes off the evening with "All the Wasted Time" from that score, the opening, "Christopher Columbus" and "Stars and the Moon" from Songs for a New World and new music from the world premiere, Heaven.
