News New York Pops to Honor Feinstein and Premiere Flaherty's "American River Suite" The New York Pops will honor four-time Grammy nominee Michael Feinstein as part of its 26th Birthday Gala at Carnegie Hall on April 27.

Liz Smith will host the 7 PM concert evening that honors Feinstein and Jonathan Tisch on the 10th anniversary of Feinstein's at Loews Regency. The concert will also present the world premiere of the "American River Suite" written by Ragtime Tony Award winner Stephen Flaherty and featuring lyrics by William Schermerhorn.

Steven Reineke will conduct "American River Suite," which salutes the joint Dutch-American initiative New Amsterdam Rediscovered, commemorating the 400th anniversary of the exploration of New York Harbor and the Hudson River. The work will later be performed as part of Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks on NBC this summer.

The gala evening also promises an appearance by "Schoolhouse Rock" composer Bob Dorough who will join local junior-high school students to perform "Conjunction Junction" and "Figure Eight."

Michael Feinstein has performed in concert halls around the world and on Broadway. His numerous solo recordings include "Michael and George: Feinstein Sings Gershwin," "Big City Rhythms" "Romance On Film, Romance On Broadway," "Michael Feinstein with The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra," "Only One Life: The Songs of Jimmy Webb" and "Hopeless Romantics."
