Classic Arts News New York's Highlights in Jazz Series Announces Spring Lineup The spring season of the Highlights in Jazz series at New York's Tribeca Performing Arts Center will include visits from Wycliffe Gordon, the Heath Brothers, Clark Terry, and Peter Cincotti.
The series begins on January 6 with a program of early jazz, featuring trombonist Gordon, clarinetist Ken Peplowski, and the Manhattan Ragtime Orchestra.

On February 10, Highlights in Jazz celebrates its 32nd anniversary with the Heath Brothers (saxophonist Jimmy, bassist Percy, and drummer Tootie) and vocalist Kevin Mahogany. A salute to drummer Jimmy Cobb, on March 10, includes trumpeter Terry, pianist Bill Charlap, alto saxophonist Lou Donaldson, and guitarist Peter Bernstein, as well as Cobb and his group Cobb's Mob.

A program of jazz singer-songwriters on April 14 features two veteran vocalists: Blossom Dearie and Dave Frishberg. Finally, on May 12 bandleader Vince Giordano leads a tribute to the late trumpeter Doc Cheatham with pianist Chuck Folds, Cheatham's longtime sideman; trumpeter Theodore Croker, Cheatham's grandson; pianist Dick Hyman; and pianist-singer Peter Cincotti.

The Tribeca Performing Arts Center also hosts Jazz in Progress, presenting emerging young musicians, and Lost Jazz Shrines, which looks back at defunct New York jazz clubs. In 2005, the latter series remembers the Village Gate with performances by pianist Randy Weston, guitarist Larry Coryell, and vocalist Carla Cook.
