Manhattan Sound Recordings, the recording studio located at 168 48th Street in the heart of Times Square, will shut its doors June 30, Billboard.com reports.
Many Broadway record labels used the facility to record their cast albums, including Broadway Records: Big Fish, the Grammy-nominated Matilda and the recent Fiddler revival; PS Classics: The Gershwins’ Porgy & Bess with Audra McDonald, On the Twentieth Century with Kristin Chenoweth, A New Brain with Jonathan Groff; and Ghostlight Records: Aladdin, Newsies, Beautiful, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder and Something Rotten!
The decision to move, according to MSR owner Dave Amlen, is due to disruptive noise from construction in the area. Artists recording at MSR became frustrated when noise from the construction of a 50-story hotel in the area would continue as late as 11 PM.
MSR is not closing up shop for good. Amlen plans to relocate in the near future, once the current location is “decommissioned.”
