News Next Page To Stage Project Paris Commune Starts at La Jolla Playhouse, July 27 Following its Page To Stage presentation of Billy Crystal's Broadway-bound 700 Sunday, La Jolla Playhouse presents Steven Cosson and Michael Friedman's Paris Commune as part of the same new play development program, starting July 27.

The new work is set for a run through Aug. 15 in the Mandell Weiss Forum Studio for the California company. Cosson directs.

Paris Commune tells "the story of the 1871 Paris uprising, the first socialist revolution in Europe," according to a release. The play uses text from historical materials and songs of the period in a new theatrical form in the style of the 19th century cabaret. The work was presented as a work-in-progress at The Mazer Theatre in New York City in the spring of 2003.

Cosson and Michael Friedman are founders of The Civilians, a multidisciplinary association of artists that develops original projects. Among their works include Canard, Canard, Goose?; Nobody’s Lunch and Gone Missing. Director and co-author Cosson has directed the American premiere of Martin Crimp's Attempts on Her Life while co-author and composer Friedman has penned music Christopher Durang's Mrs. Bob Cratchit's Wild Christmas Binge.

The cast of Paris Commune includes Aysan Çelik, Stacey Fraser, Bruce McKenzie and Dale Soules as well as UCSD students Brad Fleischer, Geno Monteiro, Brian Slaten, Katie Sigismund, Andrew Smith and Lisa Velten.

The design team features Kevin Judge (scenic), Emily Pepper (costume) and Jennifer Setlow (lighting). Choreography is by Jean Isaacs. Tickets for Paris Commune are available by calling (858) 550-1010. For more information, visit www.lajollaplayhouse.com.
