You might say New York Theatre Workshop likes to keep it in the family. Jonathan Larson's Rent started at NYTW with actor Anthony Rapp as one of the stars. Now, his brother Adam has had his time in the spotlight as American Repertory Theatre and NYTW present his new play, Nocturne, at the downtown Manhattan venue. The production that began May 16 will end its scheduled run June 17.
Nocturne follows the story of a young man struggling to put his life back together after accidentally killing his sister. After the incident, he flees his suburban life for New York City's Lower East Side working on writing to get him through it, but knows he must return home and face the music.
The play made its world premiere at Massachusetts' A.R.T. in Cambridge this past October. Marcus Stern who helmed the A.R.T. production directs the New York premiere as well. The cast has also remained intact, featuring Candice Brown, Marin Ireland, Will LeBow, Nicole Pasquale and Dallas Roberts.
The design team includes Christine Jones (sets), Viola Mackenthun (costume), John Ambrosone (lighting) and David Remedios (sound).
