No Merger for Akron Symphony and Ohio Ballet

Classic Arts News   No Merger for Akron Symphony and Ohio Ballet
The Akron Symphony Orchestra and the Ohio Ballet have decided not to merge administrative staffs for the present, the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

The two organizations have been investigating whether or not such a move would make administrative operations more efficient. Ultimately, however, there seemed to be no urgency about blending the two staffs. Jeff Sperry, executive director of the Akron Symphony, told the Beacon Journal, "That kind of alliance would significantly change how both organizations would operate."

"We have a very compatible, collegial relationship," Sperry added, "and we're looking forward to capitalizing on that." Next January, two Ohio Ballet dancers will perform with the symphony in Manuel de Falla's The Three-Cornered Hat.

The Center for Nonprofit Excellence, a local nonprofit management support organization, assisted the orchestra and ballet in their exploration of a merger.
