Part of an ongoing NYPL series devoted to the centenary of the birth of the famed British actor, "Gielgud on Screen: Chekhov and Shakespeare," focuses on "Swan Song" (1992, 23 minutes), an Academy Award- nominated short based on a play by Anton Chekhov and directed by Kenneth Branagh, followed by "Prospero's Books" (1991, 124 minutes), directed by Peter Greenaway and based on The Tempest by William Shakespeare. Screenings are 5:30 PM April 22 and 2:30 PM April 24.
The movies are part of the "Ages of a Man: A Centennial Tribute to Sir John Gielgud" series.
The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center is at 40 Lincoln Center Plaza. All programs are held in the Library's Bruno Walter Auditorium.
