News   NY's FireBird Launches New Cabaret Room; Mark Nadler Opens, Jan. 6-25
New York's FireBird Restaurant — specializing in Russian cuisine — will open the FireBird Upstairs Supperclub in January 2003.

The new room, which will showcase top cabaret talent, will launch with singer Mark Nadler on Jan. 6 at 9 PM. About the new room, impresario Steve Downey said, "The ultimate goal of TheFireBird Restaurant and Café is to become literally and figuratively the place 'where cabaret meets Broadway' — geographically as an 'anchor' of Restaurant Row in the theatre district; musically as the place where show songs endure, fresh and alive in intimate places; and artistically, where Broadway and cabaret talents mix and mingle in extended runs and star turns alike. Mark Nadler is the perfect choice to inaugurate our new supperclub." Nadler will perform his new show, Tchaikowsky (and Other Russians), through Jan. 25, playing Wednesday and Thursdays at 9 PM and Fridays and Saturdays at 9 and 11 PM. In his act, the comedic singer will deconstruct the Kurt Weill/Ira Gershwin song "Tchaikowsky" and will also offer such tunes as "I Can't Get Started," "I Concentrate On You" and "The Ugly Duckling." While accompanying himself on piano, Nadler will perform a soft-shoe, Once Upon a Mattress's "Very Soft Shoes."

A five-time MAC Award winner, Mark Nadler has performed at Carnegie Hall, Town Hall and major clubs in New York, Los Angeles and London. Currently touring in the Richard Rodgers revue Something Wonderful, the actor singer co-wrote and starred in the Drama Desk-nominated Off-Broadway Gershwin revue American Rhapsody. He appeared as "The Fingers on the Keys" in Broadway's Dame Edna: The Royal Tour and as Pinky Pickles in The Sheik of Avenue B.
