News Off-Broadway Cast, Dates Set for Rudnick's New Comedy Valhalla Cast and dates have been set for the New York Theatre Workshop's upcoming staging of Paul Rudnick's new comedy, Valhalla.

Christopher Ashley directs the work, which begins previews Jan. 16, 2004 and opens Feb. 5, 2004 at the downtown company's 79 East 4th Street venue. Tickets are currently available for performances through April 4, 2004.

Scott Barrow (The Shape of Things at DC's Studio Theatre), Candy Buckley (Thoroughly Modern Millie), Sean Dugan (Flesh and Blood), Peter Frechette (Our Country's Good), Samantha Soule (Dinner at Eight) and Jack Willis (The Crucible) star.

The work intertwines the worlds of the mad Bavarian King Ludwig II and a 1940s teenager from Texas. "Valhalla is an uproarious examination of passionate and highly strung individuals incapable of censoring their more hallucinatory urges," reads the show's press materials.

The design team for Vahalla includes Thomas Lynch (set), William Ivey Long (costume), Kenneth Posner (lighting) and Mark Bennett (sound).

Paul Rudnick's The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told began at NYTW before transferring to a commercial run Off-Broadway. The playwright's latest comedy, Valhalla, received a two-week workshop the space late last year with Christopher Ashley directing.

Rudnick's other works include I Hate Hamlet, Rude Entertainment, The Naked Truth, Jeffrey and Poor Little Lambs. Ashley recently received a Tony Award nomination for his direction of the revival of The Rocky Horror Show. Other credits include Rudnick's Rude Entertainment, The Naked Truth and Jeffrey as well as The Smell of the Kill, Mondo Drama, Wonder of the World, Newyorkers, Voices in the Dark and The Country Club.
