News Off-Broadway Evil Dead: The Musical Star to Head Toronto Run; Cast Recording Due April 24 Ryan Ward, who starred in the Off-Broadway run of Evil Dead: The Musical, will reprise his leading turn in the musical comedy when it plays Toronto's Diesel Playhouse.

The Canadian run will begin May 1 and play through June 23. The movie turned musical was just nominated for Outstanding New Off-Broadway Musical by the Outer Critics Circle for its New York run (Oct. 2, 2006-Feb. 17, 2007).

In other Evil news, the show's Off-Broadway cast recording will be released on the Time Life label April 24.

"Evil Dead: The Musical unearths the old familiar story," reveals a press release, "[where] boy and friends take a weekend getaway at abandoned cabin, boy expects to get lucky, boy unleashes ancient evil spirit, friends turn into Canadian Demons, boy fights until dawn to survive."

Original star Ryan Ward will reprise his role as Ash with a cast that includes Sarah Cornell (The Producers) as Annie/Shelley, Tara Macri (Hairspray) as Linda, Michael 'Nug' Nahrgang as Jake, Matt Olmstead as Scott, Christian Bellsmith as Ed and Rachel Fischer as Cheryl.

Christopher Bond and Tony Award winner Hinton Battle ("Dreamgirls," "Idlewild") again direct the work, which features a book and lyrics by George Reinblatt, music by Frank Cipolla, Bond, Melissa Morris and Reinblatt with music supervision by Cipolla. Jeffrey Latimer Entertainment and the Diesel Playhouse produce the Toronto run.
