The new musical was penned by Dane E. Leeman (book) and Billy Butler (book, music and lyrics) and is described as a "pop/rock, fairy tale musical that follows the exploits of four high school friends on one fateful Halloween night at a very unconventional Monsters Ball. It's John Hughes meets Scooby-Doo, and asks the age old question: 'Will the girl get the girl?'"
Executive producer and general manager Aaron Grant said in a previous statement, "We're aiming to either open the show, or start previews on October 31, 2011- theatre availability permitting."
Director, choreographer and costume designer Rachel Klein's recent directing credits include The Tragedy of Maria Macabre, a dia de los muertos dance drama through the kaleidoscopic lens of Hades; The Circus of Circus, a cirque infused musical creating the Orwellian horror of "Animal Farm" as told by circus performers at the House of Yes; Princes of Darkness, a one-man journey depicting the likenesses of Oedipus Rex, Hamlet, Dracula & Lucifer, performed by Bill Connington at Theater for the New City; Hound, a Baroque cabaret portrayal of the Sherlock Holmes mythos; and Go-Go Killers!, a retro-futuristic dance-sploitation epic about a dying Earth.
The musical was originally produced as a workshop at The Players' Ring in Portsmouth, NH.
