The season's lineup, which was announced April 26, will also include Christopher Durang's Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, the world premiere of The Few by Samuel D. Hunter and Quiara Alegria Hudes' Water by the Spoonful. Bethany by Laura Marks and Time and the Conways by J.B. Priestley will also be performed, as well as the 16th annual production of Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! and Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale, with artistic director Barry Edelstein making his Old Globe directorial debut on the latter.

“I am proud, excited, and just plain tickled to announce the 2013-14 Season at The Old Globe, my first as artistic director,” said Edelstein in a statement. “With two sensational new musicals, three award-winning plays about contemporary life by thrilling young American voices, a tour-de-force by an American comedic master, and a poetic classic by a 20th century giant, this remarkable and wide-ranging lineup of productions stays true to the Globe’s storied reputation even as it edges the company forward in some new directions. Plus a personal thrill: I make my San Diego directorial debut by returning Shakespeare to center stage at the Globe with my own production of my favorite of the Bard’s plays.”
