West End alum Colman took home Best Actress for her performance in The Favourite at the 91st annual Academy Awards.
The 91st annual Academy Awards ceremony presented Oscars to a host of first-time nominees February 24, including stage alum Olivia Colman.
Colman, who's appeared on the London stage in the National Theatre's Mosquitoes and in the West End in Hay Fever and England People Very Nice, won Best Actress for her performance as Queen Anne in The Favourite. She earned a Golden Globe earlier this year for the film.
Among those in the Best Actress category were Lady Gaga and Tony winner Glenn Close, who have joined Colman in giving acceptance speeches this awards season for A Star Is Born and The Wife, respectively. Gaga did win the Best Original Song Oscar—her first—for A Star Is Born's breakout hit "Shallow" (sharing with Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando, and Andrew Wyatt).
Best Picture went to Green Book, which also earned Best Supporting Actor for Mahershala Ali (a stage alum who won his first Oscar for Tarell Alvin McCraney's Moonlight) and Best Original Screenplay. The Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody ultimately led the pack with four wins, including Best Actor for Rami Malek.
