According to a production spokesperson, it will begin London performances in early December, prior to an official opening in late December or early January 2010.
No further details have yet been released, though names that have been connected to the project include Sheridan Smith (seen as Audrey in the Menier Chocolate Factory's production of Little Shop of Horrors that subsequently transferred to the West End), Duncan James (seen as Billy Flynn in Chicago) and Alex Gaumond (Desperately Seeking Susan, Guys and Dolls).
The musical, which features music and lyrics by Laurence O'Keefe and Nell Benjamin and a book by Heather Hach, premiered at Broadway's Palace Theatre in April 2007, following a tryout at San Francisco's Golden Gate Theatre. It ran on Broadway to October 2008 and is currently on a national tour.
The Broadway staging was directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell. It has not been announced whether he will reprise those duties here.
A 2007 broadcast of a taped version of the Broadway production, filmed in front of a live audience and featuring the show in its entirely — as well as behind-the-scenes footage and a pre-show "pink carpet" — was seen by 1.27 million home viewers when it was screened on MTV. The network was subsequently involved in a reality TV program to find a replacement for original Broadway star Laura Bell Bundy.
