On a Clear Day You Can See a Waiting List

The four public concert presentations of Tony Award-winning director Michael Mayer's revised version of Lerner and Lane's musical about past loves and loves, On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, July 29-Aug. 1, are sold out as part of Vassar & New York Stage and Film's Powerhouse Theater season.

The curiosity about the rewrite (by Peter Parnell, based Alan Jay Lerner's original 1965 libretto, heavy on a reincarnation plot) goosed people to get their tickets early. And it didn't hurt that the show was recently announced to have an Off-Broadway life at Vineyard Theatre, which launched Avenue Q, among other works. Everyone wants to be the first to see what may be the Next Big Show.

And there is said to be a tantalizing gay twist to the plot.

And who can resist the lush show tunes that Lerner and composer Burton Lane cooked up? The score includes the title song, plus "Melinda," "What Did I Have That I Don't Have," "She Wasn't You," "Come Back to Me" and more.

And stars don't hurt: Conceived and directed by Mayer, the musical, at least in the Poughkeepsie, NY, presentation, will feature Tony nominee Brian d'Arcy James (Time Stands Still, Next to Normal, Shrek The Musical) and Tony winner Anika Noni Rose (Caroline, or Change; "Dreamgirls").

So many reasons to go, so few tickets. Only paranormal activity will get you access. Where is Daisy Gamble when you need her?
