For New York City-dwelling "Smash" fans, the series plays out like a real-life treasure hunt of locations that takes us from actual casting offices to the watering holes and eateries where theatre folk catch up and gab about the latest news on the rialto.

Café Orlin: Though the name is never mentioned, Marilyn hopeful Karen Cartwright waits tables at this reliably delicious East Village locale, nestled on the north side of St. Marks Place between 2nd and 1st Avenues. Bond 45: Marilyn producer Eileen Rand causes a stir with her ex-husband Jerry at this bustling upscale midtown eatery located just east of Broadway that caters to the pre-and-post theatre crowd. If you want to be wined and dined like Broadway royalty (real-life producer Jordan Roth is also spotted here in "Smash"), ask to be seated in Eileen's cozy booth (Table 28) and order a Manhattan; just don't throw it at any ex-husbands. SD26: Formerly San Domenico, this sleek Italian restaurant-bar located in the Flatiron District is where Karen stands-up her boyfriend Dev during a last-minute rehearsal session for Marilyn. The elegant front bar is also where Karen meets touchy-feeling British director-choreographer Derek Wills for a late-night discussion of Marilyn over cocktails. Hill Country BBQ: Karen heads back to Iowa to visit Mom and Dad and get Broadway off her mind in episode three. While there, she rocks out with some friends for a baby shower at a karaoke joint. That joint is none other than the lower level of New York City's own Hill Country BBQ, where you order your meat by the pound, your margaritas by the pitcher and your longhorn cheddar mac and cheese in a large container. The Westway Diner: It didn't take "Smash" to make this place a hangout for theatre people. It's the real deal. Walk by this 9th Avenue institution between 43rd and 44th Streets and you're sure to see anyone from chorus kids to stars ordering breakfast any time of the day or night. Pigalle: Marilyn and Heaven On Earth composer Tom and hunky businessman John have a first date at this theatre-district bistro, a go-to place for after-theatre French-inspired vittles. City Hall Restaurant: Dreams do come true on "Smash." The downstairs bar at the spacious, multilevel City Hall Restaurant in Tribeca is where Ivy celebrates landing the title role in Marilyn and performs the Carrie Underwood single "Crazy Dreams." Bar: This watering hole and music venue in Long Island City (45-58 Vernon Blvd.) serves as the location for "The Bushwhack," the East Village dive bar where sneaky assistant Ellis takes Marilyn producer Eileen to slum it for $7 martinis and to test her rifle skills during a game of Big Buck World.
