While the Fovea Floods production at the Ontological Theatre closed July 30, the second production of Bertolt Brecht's Baal to see an Off-Off-Broadway stage this season has been extended.

The Bat Theatre Company's presentation that opened at the Flea Theatre July 27 closed its initial run as scheduled Sept. 2. However, it reopens for a second run Sept. 22 - Nov. 4.

Baal is the obscure tale of a rebellious poet who journeys through revelry and debauchery to experience life. Filled with sex, violence, and lines like "If a woman's hips are ample/ Then I want her in the hay/ Skirt and stockings all a-rumple/ (Cheerfully) - for that's my way," the play is far from wholesome.

The Bat Theatre Company production of Brecht's first play at the Flea was directed by Jim Simpson. This production is a "bop-era" adaptation, with a new translation by Peter Mellencamp, lighting by Ben Struck, costumes by Mimi O'Donnell, scenery by Clayton Binkley, and music arranged by David Geist.
