After the success of Sinan Unel's Pera Pala, a history of Turkey and its people, the Lark Theatre Company is again looking beyond North America for its next big production. This time, the subject will be Argentina's "dirty war" in a treatment by Argentine playwright and screenwriter Jorge Goldenberg.

The Lark hopes to mount a "BareBones" presentation of the work in September 2000. Judith Leverone is serving as translator for the project.

Goldenberg will be feted Nov. 17 in an open-to-the-public reception at Ernie's Restaurant (2150 Broadway between 75th and 76th Streets). The reception will be the playwright's introduction to the New York and United States theatrical community as his plays have never been produced in the US.

Goldberg's drama, KNEPP, looks at one of the darkest moments in Argentina's history, when the "dirty war" took 30,000 men and women from their homes and left the families of the "disappeared" scarred. Known as a screenwriter for the films "Eversmile New Jersey," "La Frontera" and "De Iso No Se Habla," he adapted Shakespeare's Measure for Measure and Ibsen's Pillars of Society for the Argentine stage, as well as penning his own Krinsky and Fifty-Fifty.
